How to track External Pages & Tracking Pixel

On this page will be explained the following topics:

The External Tracking section

The External Tracking section, on the Settings tab of your website, is referring to any external web page (not built-in CTRwow) that you linked to your website and for which we don’t have any access to performances.

Therefore, to track the payoff of External Pages that are linked to CTRwow websites, users need to add the CTRwow Java scripts to the External page.

This particular feature is called Tracking Pixel, and it is easily available within CTRwow software.

An example of External Tracking could be the Facebook Tracking Pixel that you need to place on your web page for Facebook to track it.

What is exactly a Tracking Pixel?

The Tracking Pixel is a short piece of JavaScript code also called snippet, which CTRwow provides, and that users can include on their External Checkout pages.

What is a Tracking Pixel used for?

Tracking Pixel is commonly used to:

  1. Track Conversions

  2. Optimize Funnels

  3. Understand how your pages are performing for whatever goal or KPI you have.

In CTRwow the Tracking Pixels are mainly used to capture conversion data, which means that they are coming into place when a purchase is made.

This is the reason why Tracking Pixel is frequently placed on the page that loads after a conversion is completed, within the code of the “Confirmation Pages” or “Thank you Pages”

The Tracking Pixel is added on the confirmation page of a conversion in order to:

  • Ensure you are only tracking the specific event of a purchase being successful.

  • Performance marketing is premised on the principle of making decisions.

Eventually, the Pixel is responsible for tracking sales patterns from a specific ad and helping Affiliates to point out the source of the conversions and measure the success or failure of specific ads or campaigns.

In CTRwow there are a couple of codes provided:

  • The Use on button click

  • The Use on page load.

Furthermore, it should be noted that each advertisement works just with one Pixel and this is because of the way Tracking Pixels are structured. Tracking Pixel is generally divided into two main parts:

  • The Base Code, which is what identify your ad, it is the part that will never change

  • The Standard Event Code is the part that actually specifies the action that you are tracking, for instance, purchases.

How to check if Tracking Pixels work?

In CTRwow there are a couple of codes provided:

  1. The Use on button click

  2. The Use on page load

With regard to results, we can review them directly in the ANALYTICS section under Sites and Funnels.

  1. For the first case - the Use on button click - you can track the B_CTR (Button_Click Through Rate) of a specific button. From this, users can identify which buttons are generating more clicks and more conversions.

Within ANALYTICS> Sites and Funnels you can track the B_CTR under this metric.

2. In the second case - the Use on page load - you can track the conversion event and the P_CTR (Page_Click Through Rate), which shows which page generates more conversions.

Within ANALYTICS> Sites and Funnels you can track the Conversions and P_CTR under this metric.

For more information about how B_CTR and P_CTR are calculated, please click on the following Help Desk article: How CTA links are reported into the ANALYTICS
